Testimonials

Dr. Gamini Soori is a rare physician with vision, coupled with the energy, perseverance, and knowledge to bring great ideas to life. He is nationally known for founding Midwest Independent Physicians Practice Association, which began with twelve doctors in 2009 and now has over 800 members. In 2013 he introduced one of the nation’s first physician-led health plans offered on Health Insurance Exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.

He stays at the cutting edge of medicine, both in his busy hematology oncology practice, and his research activities. His position as Medical Director of Midwest Health Coalition, a statewide Accountable Care Organization, gives him firsthand experience as this new payment model evolves.

For many years he has made time to work tirelessly for the American Medical Association in many roles, putting into practice his strong belief that physicians are most qualified to make policy decisions regarding health care. He received the Excellence in Medicine Award for Leadership from the AMA Foundation in 2006. Starting in June 2015, he will be the Chair of the AMA Council on Long Range Planning and Development (CLRPD). He is a past Chair of the AMA IMG section as well, representing over 35,000 AMA members in that capacity.

He has the experience and knowledge to work productively with government to improve patient care and physician practice. He fosters effective communication on the state level through leadership positions in our local and state medical societies, as well as nationally in past positions lobbying on behalf of the American Hematology Society, and the Federal Council on Graduate Medical Education, and through service on the American Hospital Formulary Service Experts Panel,

As a practicing cancer specialist, he understands physicians’ daily struggles. Teaching at Creighton medical school keeps him in touch with medical students, residents, and fellows. When he is in a meeting, he is an exceptional listener. As a member of the AMA Board of Trustees, we are confident that his limitless energy will help strengthen physician leadership and involvement, and continuously improve health care policy and our practice environment.

The Nebraska Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons strongly recommends Dr. Soori for the AMA Board of Trustees.

Dear AMA members,

If you want a passionate advocate for organized medicine and someone who has tirelessly stepped forward to work on behalf of physicians for much of his career, then Dr. Gamini Soori should be your choice for the AMA Board of Trustees.

Dr. Soori has championed private practices, founding the Midwest Independent Physicians Practice Association, which now boasts more than 800 members. He actively seeks out opportunities to establish relationships with government leaders in order to make sure physician voices and patient well-being are heard in public policy debates.

While managing a demanding practice, he has carved time to devote to the AMA, serving in several capacities, including incoming Chair of the AMA Council on Long Range Planning and Development (CLRPD). He’s likewise committed to the Nebraska Medical Association and the Metro Omaha Medical Society. He just finished serving as our Chair of Public Relations and is currently on the NMA Board of Councilors.

In every role he has assumed, he thoughtfully seeks out solutions and innovative ideas to meet the issues facing healthcare today. One example-- he launched the first physician-driven health plan in the country to be offered on the health exchanges in the wake of the Affordable Care Act.

We are proud and honored to work alongside Dr. Soori and to benefit from his leadership. We have no doubt he will serve the AMA admirably and bring integrity, compassion and strategic thinking to his role as a Trustee. We encourage you to make him your candidate of choice.

Very Sincerely Yours,
